Is anyone thinking about going to see Bride Wars, the movie? It stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. They play two friends who are brides to be and end up picking the same wedding date. Its supposed to be a hilarious romantic comedy about bridezillas. I saw a trailer for it when I went to watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and it looked ok. It might be a fun movie to catch with girlfriends to break up a boring Sunday afternoon. Brides who have stress about their weddings might be able to enjoy it also, by laughing a little about the craziness planning a wedding.

My husband and I met up with our favorite friends from Arizona in Las Vegas! It was a fun couple of days hanging out with this terrific couple. Its always a ton of laughs and craziness with these two.

I had to share a quick story about a marriage proposal we witnessed.

We were having dinner at Carne Vino, another Mario Batali gem in the Desert. It is located in the Palazzo casino. Luckily, our trip to Vegas was outside of the annual New Year Eve insanity so it wasn’t busy or completely booked. I highly recommend trying out this restaurant if you like steak. They have these awesome dry aged steaks that are really special and quite delicious. The service there is awesome too.

Oh yeah, back to the proposal…

We were at the tail end of our dinner on December 30, when a huge pack of women came through the dining room. There were probably 12 girls and 2 guys that walked through entourage style. They were heard saying that it was a birthday party for one of the girls in the group.

When everyone was seated and bottles of wine were opened, the birthday girl’s boyfriend stood up to make a little speech. The boyfriend I have to mention, was dressed in a tux complete with tails and everyone was dressed to the 9s in cute dresses and heels.

Birthday girl’s boyfriend started off by saying happy birthday and then talked about how happy he was and then he got down on one knee!! Thats sweet that guys still do that, I adore that type of proposal.

The birthday girl was definitely surprised and was crying her eyes out. Of course she accepted and then promptly left for the bathroom with all 12 of the girls to discuss what had just happened.

It was sweet how the guy got all of the birthday girl’s friends together to witness this special engagement. I’m sure that everyone was in on it and was just waiting for the moment. We didn’t see the rest of the evening, but we did see the relieved enfianced guy outside, so we congratulated him and went on with our evening.

What a nice way to start off 2009! She’ll have a lot of fun wedding planning ahead of her.

We are so thrilled that people have nice things to say about Type A Planning. Without the support of family, friends and terrific clients, I wouldn’t have anything today.

A couple weeks earlier, I received an invitation to the grand opening of the new Unici Casa Gallery in Culver City. I was fortunate to get the invitation from Les 3 Sen Cateringcompany. They are the in house catering company for Unici Casa. This 8.000 square foot gallery was filled with beautiful imported Italian chandeliers, lighting and installations. I took a couple of pictures with my camera phone to show you the awesome art pieces.

How great would it be to have these displayed in your house?

Les 3 Sensis a catering company in LA that specializes in French cuisine. They served delicious hors d’oeuvres all through the night, along with delicious champagne and specialty cocktails. They are available to cater your special events and have terrific menus.

Given all of the economic hardships, I find myself thinking about more thoughtful gifts or handmade gifts to give to my family and friends. I came up with a pretty good one this year, I think I will pat myself on the back for this one.

For Christmas / Mom’s 60th Birthday I am in the process of commissioning one of LA’s local photographers to take portrait photos of my entire family. My family is starting to get all spread out around the world, and getting everyone together is tougher and tougher. Miraculously, we will all be in LA for Christmas and we will all be taking my mom out for her early birthday dinner after Christmas. Before the meal, we’re going to do our portrait session, and the photographer that I select will help us put an awesome album to present to my mom. I know that she will love this gift and our family has never done any type of professional photography, so this will be a first.

What do you think of my idea? Good/Bad?

I’ve been flipping through my Martha Stewart Living Magazines and I have to say, Martha always has awesome ideas for just about anything. I received the Holiday season one recently and it had a ton of dessert recipes and suggestions for hosting parties. My favorite section of the magazine was the Cookie part. I love cookies and I am actually going to take on the task to make cookies for my friends and family this year. I think I’m going to make lots of chocolate dipped cookies, and probably some options that are gluten-free for my lovely younger sister. I love the way Martha packages her treats in such pretty papers, tins, and dressing it up just ever so much.

Here are some cool ideas that Martha came up with for the holiday entertaining season.

Host a Cookie Swap!

Invite your friends over and have everyone make a large batch of one type of cookie to contribute to the swap. The host will provide pretty packaging for the guests to collect all the different types of cookies and take it home for a sweet treat! Handmade Gifts are cool too. There is one really neat one where you can make samples of treats and then provide your gift recipient with the recipe so they can make it over and over.

I gotta say I love the Holidays and the chill of the air. It makes me extra happy knowing that I’ll soon be having the huge family meal and eating lots of desserts and treats.

Oh! Since I’m not getting a tree this year, I’m going to make a cute little tree out of wine corks! I have a ton at home that I’ve been saving for something, and this would be a sweet little project. I’ll post some pictures soon so you can check it out.

This comes a little late but we were away for a bit and missed the chance to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope that everyone had a great time being with family and friends and had a chance to rest up.

Lately I’ve been seeing some cool centerpieces that use branches with hanging votives. I’ve seen them online, in magazines, at actual people’s weddings and they do look pretty cool actually. Its one of those centerpieces where it can look really elegant, romantic, sleek, at the same time it can be natural, and easy on the eyes.

Wedding websites are a great source of information for your guests. You can point everyone there to find pictures of the lovely couple, travel information, hotel room blocks, things to do, and the registry. What’s great about wedding websites is that you don’t have to include extra inserts in your invitation set, saving on printing costs and using extra paper.

Here are a couple of pay sites for your own .com web address:

The major differences with a paid vs. free site: You get your own .com domain address, there are usually a lot more customizable templates, and usually more features. Some of the paid sites give you planning software, which you can probably get from a free theknot.com site.

Lots of brides are making the move towards wedding websites since you can update it regularly and even make blog posts for your guests to read. Its a ton of fun to be able to track the wedding couple throughout the planning process.
