I got to thinking about how I really love comfort foods. Imagine a big old plate of mac and cheese, beef brisket, and then some chocolate cake. Sounds nice and hearty and delicious. What about spaghetti and meatballs with some garlic bread? Good old Americanized comfort foods that are major crowd pleasers. Now what if you decided to host a party or a wedding with these foods? I know it doesn’t sound nearly as fancy as your filet mignon, or lobster tails, but if its what you like…go for it. I used to make fun of Britney Spears’ wedding menu of chicken fingers and mac and cheese, but nowadays it feels like anything goes.
What I think might be fun is if you had a play off the fancy and the comfort food menu. You could still go for the half fancy to make your parents happy at your wedding, and then the other half would be your favorite comfort dish. This way you both get what you want. It would be a nice compromise for a wedding or special celebration. With the way the economy is now, its almost like people are looking for comfort wherever they can find it. Why not do this for your guests at your next event or party?
Onto a more random thought, I think its time to reinstate those casserole pot luck parties. What’s old is new again. Just like the slow cooker, the casserole is coming back! For a casserole party you could ask each of your guests to create a dish for everyone to share. Dishes such as mac and cheese, lasagne, potatoes au gratin, green beans, served with a side salad would be a lovely evening with your favorite friends. You can easily make big batch of delicious homemade food economically and feed a ton of people.
I think that I’m just hungry.
